Let’s start out by making our own coffee creamer

Making your own coffee creamer is simple and also saves you from consuming additives and gums.

I usually make my own if I run out of my favorite non-dairy coffee creamer by NutPods that offers great options for unique flavors.

It is super simple to make and results in a great basic creamer you can use daily in hot drinks or to cream up your cold-brew coffee.

In a liquid measuring cup, add 1 cup of heavy cream plus 1 cup of unsweetened almond milk.

I recommend leaving it unsweetened so you can use it as a plain base for your cold foam.

Store it in a lidded jar until ready to use.

You will use this creamer you created instead of the non-dairy creamer listed in the cold foam recipe.

Simple Ingredients you will need to make the best Cold Foam

How to Make Cold Foam with Coffee Creamer Plus Recipe (7)
  • 1 part heavy whipping cream (or the coconut cream top from a can of coconut milk)
  • 1 part unsweetened almond milk OR favorite non-dairy creamer
  • Optional: 1 teaspoon of your favorite extract (vanilla, almond, caramel) OR favorite flavored coffee syrup
  • Optional: a pinch of stevia or 1/2 tsp liquid stevia

To make the ultimate creamy texture for your cold foam it is important to use a high fat addition like heavy cream or coconut cream.

They are known for their high fat content, which contributes to that indulgent mouthfeel you crave in your coffee.

It’s the foundation upon which your cold foam will be built, giving it a luxurious, velvety texture that’s reminiscent of a creamy coffee dessert.

Equipment you will need to create your Cold Foam

  • Small saucepan or frothing pitcher
  • Handheld Frother, Immersion Blender, or Whisk

Let’s make our Cold Foam to top our favorite cold brew coffee

To start, you have already cooled your choice of prepared coffee.

You can purchase cold brew coffee from the store, or brew up some coffee with your espresso machine or French press and chill overnight.

Get out your glass for your iced cup of coffee and fill 3/4 of the way with ice.

How to Make Cold Foam with Coffee Creamer Plus Recipe (9)

You can also make up some coffee ice cubes when you freeze cooled coffee in ice cube trays.

This helps to not water down your iced coffee as it melts.

Pour your coffee over the ice in your chosen glass.

Now the next part we will construct your base for the cold foam.

I chose to create my own coffee creamer which is made of part cream and part milk.

You can choose to just use this homemade creamer instead of the unsweetened almond milk listed or sub in some purchased non-dairy creamer.

Depending on your dietary preferences, you can also choose from skim milk, whole milk, nonfat milk, or oat milk.

I use a glass quart jar to keep my cold foam creamer mix in.

Measure out one part heavy cream or coconut cream in the quart jar.

Now top with the milk or creamer you chose plus extract and sweetener if you want.

The important part to remember is that you want it to be very cold milk to start with so the fat in the cream froths up well.

Choose how you will make your thick foam.

I chose to use my handheld immersion blender, but you can use a hand held frother wand like the picture below too.

This post shows how to make a great coffee foam without the need for a special machine or steamer wand and gives other ideas beyond a frother.

I poured approximately 1/2 cup of my cold foam blend into my frother pitcher.

You can of course use a wide mouth jar or small saucepan.

Turn the immersion blender to high speed and tilt your pitcher or saucepan to get it frothed better.

Continue until you have made enough air bubbles to increase the volume at least by half.

These tiny bubbles are suspended in the fat form the cream.

Start to pour your cold foam you created onto the top of the drink slowly.

It should be pourable but still thick like the desired consistencyof melted ice cream.

If you find yourself with leftover cold foam you can store it in an airtight container in the refrigerator for a short period.

Just be aware that the texture may change slightly over time, but it can still be a delightful addition to your future cold coffee drinks.

You can always froth it up again if you want.

It will keep up to a week combined.

Here are some other ways you can create the cold foam without a blender

When it comes to making cold foam with coffee creamer, you have several options at your disposal that do not require a steam wand on an espresso machine.

Let’s delve into these methods and discover which one suits your preferences best:

-Mason Jar Method: This method involves shaking heavy cream and coffee creamer together in a mason jar to create a creamy foam. It’s a simple and effective approach that requires minimal equipment.

-Immersion Blender: An immersion blender, like in the picture above, is a versatile kitchen tool that can be used to whip up a creamy cold foam in no time. It ensures a consistent and smooth texture. It is my favorite way to make cold cream.

-Handheld Milk Frother: A handheld milk frother is a convenient gadget that can easily froth your cream mixture for cold foam. It’s quick and efficient also for mixing in additions to your coffee like my favorite collagen.

-Electric Milk Frother: If you’re looking for a more hands-off approach, an electric milk frother is a great choice. It can create a thick and creamy foam with little effort.
